It's better to just give up. If you want android OS then just buy a decent phone that can run it well.

we dont have to edit its kernel, just patch and build an own kernel from source

Apart from magic and fantasy... i'm always thinking that 1+1 equals 2 and all computers can compute that. think about it: you had pentium 90Hz with 500Mbs of HD with 16Mb Ram? ever? near 20 years ago they existed... and this mobile seams better then that computer, yet I could do much more with that computer then with this mobile today! for instance: if one could get a way to connect a keyboard to this cookie through it USB port we could in fact WORK and develop web sites for instance, and install programs such as FileZilla... what a dream... every where :] apart from dreams, i can only think we need to understand how such device operate, we need to know how it access the memory. android is linux. i don't know much about it but i've seen it emulated in pc's thou it was x86 from android-x86.org site. other thing to do would be think about test it in some virtualization tool: http://geeknizer.com/how-to-run-google-android-in-virtualbox-vmware-on-netbooks/k, there is also an android live cd version (to be installed as ubuntu of any other release) these guys mastered the android release to be adapted to x86 cpu's and even be installed from a cd drive. the thing is linux kernels are open source so they are there to be altered to adapt and evolve - got to love that in linux! from android-x86.org there is a 72Mb iso to asus laptop. and the live cd is about 160Mbs. you have for instance http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ that is about 50Mb that i would be happy to have on lg lol I guess issues like performance and capacity are not questionable because there are OS's available to run in so low capacity devices, even if you chose some old lnx release. see this: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Minimum_Hardware_RequirementsDamn Small Linux: Run light enough to power a 486DX with 16MB of Ram, Run fully in RAM with as little as 128MB (fully in RAM!, no hdd!) the real issue is: - What CPU it has?
- What graphic device?
- What what chip set? and what else?
- are they proprietary? are there drivers (for lnx) for those components of these mobile?
If you can't answer that, you should forget it or ask the LG about it - I doubt they will ever release that in useful time. You already have good devices for low budgets such as 100€-200€ But if you can spend the required time and equipment to see the board of the mobile and get programmers for drivers and such, then you have a tiny possibility -> who will be interested in this? my guess is that it should be easier to find parts with opensource drivers from china and assemble them by your own will and create some crazy device heh

a new pcb that is not practicle unless you want to produce some crazy device for your own amusement :]
anyone knows the grphics device/driver and how to manage it's boot and filesystems? some docs about that would be awesome...
I am yet to explore my wdb and those files from firmware from my linux, being linux compatible with almost everything, I should be able to understand the filesys of this kp501. if we could insert android first in its memory and then try to launch/boot it to watch it's behaviour would be great instead of throwing convictions about this. someone with kernel/boot exp in linux would be great to step in, other we can try to discuss it in android channels in irc to get some help from the community. but before this, we must have also intel about GRAPHICS and file systems. i have grabbed a pdf about HW specs, but no graphic or fs specs.
(firmware is like BIOS, it's only there to have low level instructions that allow us to put heavier and higher level programs to operate the device, in phones as those ancestors (like old Nokia bricks) that looked like actual BIOS menus, firmware was all that existed, i'm convinced that this is not only firmware in KP501 thou the frontier is tiny and flexible between firmware and OS, either way, creating a firmware to boot android kernel is not that fantastic :] should consist in instructions to boot some memory part-like the user card memory as a hard disk like pc's right? handling of file systems from kernel is unknown to me.. but as MS uses ntfs and fat, Lnx uses EXT2, EXT3, Swap, NTFS, etc... it must be OS dependent and not hw driven)

for booting we only need a code that loads the kernel and initrd to memory, sets the boot parameters and then jumbs to the beginning of the kernel in RAM
